What E66 means

On heater-equipped Frigidaire Affinity 6000 and 7000 front-load washers, E66 reports a heating element relay failure. These washers heat the wash water with an element, and a relay on the control switches that element on and off. The code covers both the 2006 generation and the later 3.5 cu ft Affinity washers of about 2009 to 2012. When the control sees the relay behaving wrongly, it stops heating or the cycle. Owners notice warm washes that stay cold, or a cycle that quits with E66 on the display.

Common causes of E66

  • Heater relay on the control board
  • Heating element and its wiring
  • Control board output that drives the relay
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the washer off and try a cold-water cycle, which does not need the heater. 2. Check the water supply valves are fully open. 3. If the washer runs cold but E66 returns on a warm cycle, stop using warm settings. 4. Call us to test the heater circuit.

! Why to stop there
  • E66 points at the relay circuit, which could be the relay on the board or something it drives.
  • We test the heater circuit and the relay output, then give you a written price before replacing a board.
  • If a control repair is close to the cost of a newer washer, we say so.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E66E66 questions
Can I still wash in cold water?

Often yes, since cold cycles do not use the heater. If the code stops every cycle, the washer needs a visit. Wash with cold water and a normal load in the meantime, and skip warm settings until we have tested the heater circuit.

Is E66 the same as a heater that will not heat?

Not exactly. E66 is a relay problem on the control. A bad element shows differently. We test both when we visit. A bad element would show a different reading, so we test the element, the wiring and the relay output as separate steps.

Do you repair Affinity front-load washers?

Yes. They are older but still common in Houston, and we give you a written price before any work. We give you a written price before any work, and we tell you honestly if the washer is better replaced.
