What EB2 means
On Frigidaire front-load washers with the horizontal-axis electronic control, EB2 means the incoming line voltage is above 130 volts AC. The code is used on the 3.0 cu ft Frigidaire and Gallery washers and on the Affinity 6000 and 7000 series. The washer is built for normal household power, and when the supply measures too high the control shuts down to protect the board and the motor. Owners may see the washer stop, refuse to start or show EB2 after a storm or a change at the outlet. The first check is the voltage at the outlet.
Common causes of EB2
- Outlet voltage reading high
- Loose neutral or wiring problem in the home
- Control board reading the supply wrongly
1. Turn the washer off and unplug it. 2. Do not use the washer on a circuit that you suspect is wrong. 3. Have the voltage at the outlet checked. 4. If the outlet is normal and EB2 returns, call us.
- High voltage at a washer can come from the home's wiring or from the board's own reading.
- We check the outlet voltage first, then the washer, and tell you what we find before any price is agreed.
- If the problem is in the home's wiring, we tell you to call an electrician and do not touch it.
Other Washer codes
Is EB2 dangerous?
High supply voltage can damage electronics, so we recommend leaving the washer off until the outlet is checked. We would keep the washer off until the outlet voltage has been checked, because the control and the motor can be damaged by a high supply.
Who checks the outlet?
We can measure it during our visit. If the home wiring is the problem, an electrician has to fix that, and we say so. It is worth checking at the outlet first, and we do that at the start of our visit.
Can a storm cause EB2?
It can. Storms in Houston can disturb household power. If the outlet reads normal afterward, the washer's reading is next. If the outlet reads normal afterward, we move on to how the washer itself reads the supply.
Still seeing EB2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
