What F5 / F6 / F7 (single, ESEC 5) means
On older Frigidaire electric freestanding ranges, 30 and 40 inch models such as the FEF355 and PLEF398 stems from 2001 and 2002 with the ESEC 5 surface control, F5, F6 and F7 stand alone. F5 means the mother board lost contact with the user interface boards. F6 means the mother board lost contact with the oven control. F7 means a failed potentiometer, the interface board or the harness. Houston homes still have a number of these ranges, and we repair them.
Common causes of F5 / F6 / F7 (single, ESEC 5)
- The harness between the mother board and the interface boards (F5)
- The link between the mother board and the oven control (F6)
- A knob's potentiometer, interface board or harness (F7)
- Moisture or grease reaching the knobs
1. Turn off the elements. 2. Interrupt power at the plug or breaker for a minute, then restore it. 3. Note which knob was in use when F7 appeared. 4. Do not pull the knobs or take the back off.
- The three codes point to three different links, so we read the single digit and match it to a test.
- We check the knob that was in use, the harness, and then the boards.
- A written price comes first, and we tell you honestly whether a board is worth it on a range this old.
Other Range codes
What does each single digit mean?
F5 is a link problem with the interface boards, F6 is a link problem with the oven control, and F7 is a knob, interface board or harness problem. The digit sends us to the right test.
Is it worth repairing a range from 2001?
Sometimes. Knobs and harnesses are modest repairs. If a board is the cause, we tell you whether the cost makes sense before you commit to it.
Why does F7 appear when I turn one knob?
That knob's potentiometer or its wiring may be the cause, since the code is about that control. We test that knob first and then the harness.
Still seeing F5 / F6 / F7 (single, ESEC 5)?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
