What F7 11 / 21 / 31 / 41 means
On Frigidaire freestanding electric ranges with the ESEC 10R surface element control, such as the PLEF398DC, F7 followed by 11, 21, 31 or 41 means one surface element's potentiometer reads shorted. The tens digit names the element, left front through right front in that order. Moisture is a known cause, so a spill or heavy steam around the knobs can bring the code on. You will see that burner stop responding while the others may still work.
Common causes of F7 11 / 21 / 31 / 41
- Moisture under the knob or in its connector
- The potentiometer behind that knob
- The wiring and interface board connection for that element
1. Turn the elements off. 2. Dry the control area while the range is off, and move any spill away from the knobs. 3. Switch the power off at the plug or breaker for a short while, then on. 4. Do not pull off the knobs, and let us know which burner showed the code.
- Moisture can clear by itself, so the first question is whether the code stays after the panel is dry.
- We test the knob and wiring, then the interface board.
- We give you a written price first, and we tell you plainly if an older range is not worth the repair.

Can a spill cause F7 11?
Yes. The code can come from moisture getting into the knob circuit. Drying the area and resetting the power sometimes clears it, though a repeat means we should test the knob.
What separates F7 11 from F7 10?
F7 10 reads open and F7 11 reads shorted. Both name the left-front knob, but we test them differently, because a short and an open point to different causes.
Will you check the other knobs too?
Yes. A spill may have affected more than one knob circuit, and we check them while we are there, so you only need one visit to know where things stand.
