What F11 means

Frigidaire freestanding gas and electric ranges built since about 2004, plus Gallery and Professional electric slide-ins such as the FGES3065KB and FPES3085KF, show F11 when the electronic oven control reads the keypad as shorted. On the ES 510 control the code can even appear if a key is held for more than 20 seconds. You may find the keys ignore you, the oven will not start, or the display shows F11 as soon as power comes on.

Common causes of F11

  • A key held or stuck, or a keypad worn thin
  • Moisture or grease under the keypad
  • The ribbon link between the keypad and the control
  • The input on the control that reads the keys
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Take your fingers off the keys and do not hold any button down. 2. Wipe the control panel dry while the range is off. 3. Pull the plug or trip the breaker for a full 30 seconds, then reconnect. 4. Press the keys one at a time and see whether F11 stays away.

! Why to stop there
  • If F11 returns with nobody touching the panel, a key is reading closed on its own.
  • We test the keypad and its link first, since that costs less than a control.
  • A written price comes before any part is replaced.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F11F11 questions
Did I cause F11 by holding a key?

It is possible on the ES 510 control, where holding a key longer than 20 seconds can trigger it. After the 30-second power reset, the code should be gone if that was all.

Will F11 let me use the stovetop?

Surface elements may still work on some models, but the oven often will not start. We would not rely on it until the keypad is checked.

Is the keypad worth replacing on an older range?

Often yes, since it costs less than a control. We tell you plainly before we start if the age of the range makes the repair a poor value.
