What EF5 means

EF5 on a Frigidaire Affinity 6000 or 7000 front-load washer means the temperature reading at the hot water valve is outside its limits. The owner chart for the 2004 washers describes it as hot water not entering, shown by 15 beeps on models without a display. The 2009 chart lists hot and cold hoses switched as the first check. In practice the hot hose is on the wrong faucet or the hot faucet is off. If water is reaching the washer, the hot valve and its sensing need a look.

Common causes of EF5

  • Hot hose connected to the wrong faucet
  • Hot water faucet turned off or partly closed
  • Hot water inlet screen clogged
  • Hot valve or its temperature circuit
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Connect the hose to the hot water faucet and to the hot inlet on the washer. 2. Be sure the hot water faucet is fully open. 3. Check that the hose is not kinked behind the washer. 4. Restart the cycle. If EF5 returns, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • If the hoses and faucets are right and EF5 returns, we cannot say yet whether the valve, the screen or the sensing is responsible.
  • We test the hot valve and its circuit and give you a written price before any repair.
  • On an older washer we tell you plainly if the repair does not make sense.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
EF5EF5 questions
Are the hoses switched?

Check this first. The hose marked hot must go to the hot faucet and the hot inlet. Swapped hoses are common after the washer is moved.

Is the home water heater involved?

It can be. If the home gives no hot water, the washer cannot reach temperature. We check this during the visit. We check the hot supply to the washer when we visit and tell you what we find.

Is EF5 related to E76?

They are mirror images. E76 refers to the cold valve and EF5 to the hot valve. The valves are on opposite lines, so the checks are the same but the hose and faucet you look at are different.
