What EF2 means
EF2 on a Frigidaire front-load washer means there is too much soap in the drum. The horizontal-axis electronic control, used on the 3.0 cu ft Frigidaire and Gallery washers and on the Affinity 6000 and 7000, senses oversudsing and stops the cycle to let the foam settle. On older models without a display, the same condition is reported by 15 beeps. Owners see thick suds behind the glass, a washer that pauses or drains slowly and sometimes foam near the door. It is usually caused by the detergent, not by a broken part.
Common causes of EF2
- Detergent that is not high efficiency
- Too much detergent for the load
- Soap residue left in the drum from earlier loads
1. Use only high efficiency detergent. 2. Follow the dosage recommendation on the bottle. 3. Wait for the suds to settle, then run a rinse cycle. 4. Restart with a smaller dose next time. 5. If suds keep coming back with the right detergent and dose, stop and call us so we can look at how the washer drains.
- If EF2 comes back with correct detergent and dose, we do not know yet whether the pressure sensing or the drain is the cause.
- We check how the washer senses suds and how it drains, then give you a written price before any repair.
- If the cause is detergent, we tell you that and it costs you nothing to fix.
Other Washer codes
Why does too much soap matter?
Foam makes the washer think the tub is fuller than it is, and it can block rinsing. The washer stops so it does not overflow.
Can I use regular detergent?
No. Front-load washers need high efficiency detergent, which makes far less foam. Regular detergent makes far too many suds for a front-load washer and is a common cause of this code on its own.
What do 15 beeps mean?
On older models without a display, 15 beeps match this oversudsing condition. The remedy is the same. Run the empty cycle with no detergent at all, and use a smaller dose of HE detergent for the next load.
