What E59 means
E59 tells you a Frigidaire front-load washer has gone three seconds without a tacho signal. The tacho is the speed sensor on the drum motor, and the control expects a steady pulse while the motor runs. When the pulses stop, the control cannot confirm the drum is turning and ends the cycle. The code is used on the horizontal-axis electronic control in the 3.0 cu ft Frigidaire and Gallery washers and the Affinity 6000 and 7000 series. Owners see the motor try to start, then stop with E59 shown.
Common causes of E59
- Tacho sensor on the motor not sending pulses
- Wiring or connector between the motor and the control
- Drum jammed so the motor cannot turn
- Motor drive output on the control
1. Turn the washer off and open the door. 2. Try turning the drum by hand with the load removed. It should rotate freely. 3. Check for a sock or small item jamming the drum. 4. Start a cycle again. If E59 returns, stop using the washer.
- E59 means the speed pulses stopped. A jam, the sensor, the wiring or the control can each cause that.
- We first confirm the drum turns, then check the tacho and its wiring, then the drive. A written price comes before any part is ordered.
- On an older washer we weigh the repair against the cost of replacing it and tell you honestly.

How is E59 different from E52?
E52 is a bad tacho signal, while E59 is no signal at all for three seconds. The checks are close, and we test the sensor and wiring for both.
Can a jammed drum cause E59?
Yes. If the drum cannot turn, the tacho cannot send pulses. Try turning it by hand first. If it moves freely and E59 persists, the sensor circuit needs testing.
Do you work on older Affinity washers?
We do. Many are still running well in Houston homes. The quote is in writing before work starts, and our repair is covered for 30 days.
Still seeing E59?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
