What E42 means
E42 on Frigidaire and Gallery 3.0 cubic foot front-load washers from about 2004 to 2006, Good and Better lines, reports that the door remains locked after the cycle is complete. The code shows as LED flash counts on the Good models. The washer is done, but the door will not release, so you cannot get the wash out. It is only on these 3.0 cubic foot washers and does not appear on the Affinity washers. Washers like these are still working in plenty of Houston homes.
Common causes of E42
- The door lock that does not release
- The door lock wiring or control
- A cycle that has not fully finished, such as a washer that still holds water
1. Wait a few minutes after the cycle ends and try the door again. 2. Check that the drum has no water before you try to open it. 3. Do not force the door. 4. Call us if it stays locked. 5. Open the door only once the drum has stopped and drained.
- If the door stays locked, we do not know whether the lock, its wiring or the control is the cause.
- We check the lock and test the circuit that releases it.
- A written price comes before we replace the lock, and an older washer gets an honest opinion on value.
Other Washer codes
Why is my door locked after the wash is done?
The lock did not release after the cycle. The cause may be the lock itself or the circuit that releases it, and we check both before replacing anything.
How do I get my clothes out?
Do not force the door. If the drum is not full of water, call us and we walk you through the next step. We would rather save the lock than break it.
Do you repair these older Gallery washers?
We do. A lock that will not release is a repair we make in Houston homes. After checking it, we quote the price in writing and say plainly if the washer is not worth fixing.
Still seeing E42?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
