What 3 (in fresh food window) means

If the fresh food window on an older Frigidaire electronic side-by-side refrigerator, such as the FGHS2655PF, shows a 3, the control reports that the fresh food thermistor is shorted. The control reads a signal outside the range a working sensor produces, so it cannot tell how warm the refrigerator section actually is. The cooling may then run too long, so milk and produce freeze, or run too little, so the food warms. This numeric display is the way this older control reports a sensor problem.
