What 2 (in freezer window) means
Older Frigidaire electronic side-by-side refrigerators, such as the FGHS2655PF and FPHS2699PF, use their temperature windows to show numeric codes. A 2 in the freezer window means the freezer thermistor reads as open, which is a break in the temperature sensor circuit. The control cannot read the freezer temperature, so it cannot run the cooling the way it should. You may see the 2 where the temperature normally appears, a freezer that runs too warm or too cold, or frost that builds up. These are older refrigerators still in many homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of 2 (in freezer window)
- The freezer thermistor itself, which may be open
- The wiring and connector between the thermistor and the control
- The input on the main board that reads the thermistor
1. Check that both doors are closed and that nothing blocks the seal. 2. Keep food cold by limiting how often you open the freezer. 3. If the freezer is warming, move frozen food to a cooler or a second freezer. 4. Do not remove panels or pull the refrigerator apart.
- We do not know whether the sensor, its wiring or the control board is the cause until we test the circuit.
- We check the thermistor reading against what it should be, then inspect the connector and wiring.
- You hear the price before we replace a part, and if the unit is too old to justify the cost, we will tell you directly.

What does a 2 in the freezer window mean?
On these older side-by-side models it points to an open freezer thermistor circuit. The control has lost its reading of freezer temperature. It is a sensor problem, not proof that the food has already spoiled.
Is my food safe?
That depends on how warm the freezer has become and for how long. Check that frozen food still has ice crystals and feels hard. If it has thawed and warmed, follow normal food safety rules and throw out anything doubtful.
Is it worth fixing an older side-by-side?
Often it is, since a sensor repair usually costs far less than a new refrigerator. We look it over first, then explain the price and whether it makes sense for your unit.

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
