What SH (Refrigerator Display) means
SH shown in the fresh food display of a Frigidaire Gallery or Professional French-door bottom-freezer refrigerator with an electronic display means the fresh food sensor reads as shorted. The same code appears on electronic side-by-side models, and older side-by-sides show a 3 in the fresh food window. A shorted sensor gives the control a signal it cannot trust, so cooling in the fresh food section may run too long or not enough. You may find frozen milk and produce, or a section that stays warm.
Common causes of SH (Refrigerator Display)
- The fresh food temperature sensor
- The wiring and connector between the sensor and the control
- The board input for that sensor
1. Close the doors firmly and check that nothing props them open. 2. Check the fresh food section for frozen items and move them away from the vents. 3. Pack milk and meat into a cooler if the section feels warm. 4. Do not remove panels.
- We cannot tell from SH which part of the sensor circuit is shorted.
- We test the sensor, look at the connector and check the control input.
- The price is in writing before any work starts.
Other Refrigerator codes
What does SH mean in the refrigerator display?
It means the control sees the fresh food sensor as shorted, so it has no usable temperature for that section. Service is needed to find the cause.
Is the problem the control board?
Not necessarily. A shorted reading can come from the sensor, its wiring or the board input. We test in that order and replace only what the test supports.
Should I repair or replace an older French-door refrigerator?
Often a repair makes sense, because a sensor is a modest part. We quote the work in writing and speak up if the repair is not worth it.
Still seeing SH (Refrigerator Display)?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
