What CL / Cd means

On Frigidaire electronic dishwashers with a display, built from 2006 onward, CL or Cd means the door has not closed and latched properly. Older service documents describe CL as the control not receiving power through the door switch. The display shows the code and the dishwasher will not start. Models such as PLD4555RFC0 and FGID2466QF are typical of the display styles that use these codes.

Common causes of CL / Cd

  • The door is not fully closed or the latch is not catching
  • The door latch or door switch is worn or out of position
  • Wiring to the door switch
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Open the door and check that nothing is blocking it, such as a rack, a dish or a utensil. 2. Close the door firmly and make sure you hear the latch catch. 3. Press Start again. 4. If you cannot close the door or CL returns, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • If the door closes and latches but CL stays, the door switch or its circuit may not be passing power.
  • We check the latch and switch alignment first.
  • A worn latch is a modest repair, and you get the price in writing first.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
CL / CdCL / Cd questions
What does CL or Cd mean?

The dishwasher thinks the door is open. Either the door is not latched fully or the switch that confirms it is closed is not passing power to the control.

The door looks closed. Why does it still say CL?

A latch that is slightly out of position, or a worn door switch, can fail to confirm closure. We check both, starting with the latch.

Is this repair expensive?

Often not. Door latches and switches are common, modest repairs. We confirm the cause and give you the written price before we begin. You can plan on a clear explanation of what failed.
