What RE / RF means
On Frigidaire Professional fully integrated direct-feed dishwashers, such as PLD4555RFC0 and PLD4375RFC0, RE and RF are readouts rather than alarms. They appear in the relay and triac test after pad 7 has been pressed, and they report the position of the reed switch in the rinse aid dispenser. RE means that switch is closed. RF means it is open. If you see one of them during a test, the control is simply telling you what the switch is doing at that moment. These are older dishwashers that are still in many Houston homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of RE / RF
- The rinse aid dispenser reed switch and the float that moves it
- The wiring and connector between the dispenser and the control
- The input on the control that reads the switch
1. Check whether the readout appeared while a test was running; that is where RE and RF belong. 2. Look at the rinse aid cap and make sure it is seated and the dispenser is not empty or overfilled. 3. Wipe up any spilled rinse aid around the cap. 4. Cancel the cycle, then start a normal wash and see whether the dishwasher runs through it.
- Neither letter tells us the switch is bad, so a normal wash cycle that completes is the best sign that nothing needs replacing.
- We compare what the switch reports with the actual fill level of the dispenser, then test the switch and its wiring.
- If a repair would cost more than the dishwasher is worth, we will tell you before any work begins.
Other Dishwasher codes
Does RE or RF mean my dishwasher is broken?
Not by itself. Both are test-mode readouts of one switch position, closed or open. A dishwasher that washes and drains normally usually has nothing wrong. We look further only if the readout does not match the dispenser. That keeps a normal switch position from being mistaken for a repair need.
Why do I only see RE or RF sometimes?
They show up in the relay test after pad 7 is pressed, so they are tied to that test and not to a wash cycle. A normal cycle does not need you to look at them. Pad 7 is part of the test sequence, so you will not see them in a regular wash.
Can you repair this older Professional dishwasher?
Yes. We repair these direct-feed models, give you a written price before we start, and tell you plainly if the repair is not worth making on a dishwasher this age. Our visit would simply confirm the switch and dispenser agree.
Still unsure about RE / RF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
