What AS means
Frigidaire dehumidifiers with a digital display, including the FFAD, FFAP and FGAC families, show AS when a temperature or humidity sensor has stopped giving the control a usable reading. The control needs those readings to decide when to run the compressor and fan. With AS on the display, the unit may run constantly, stop running, or ignore the humidity setting you chose. The same message group also covers ES, F1, F2, L1 and F5.
Common causes of AS
- The humidity or temperature sensor and its plug
- The sensor wiring back to the board
- The control board input that reads the sensor
1. Unplug the dehumidifier and give it a minute. 2. Plug it back in and set a target humidity. 3. Check that the air intake and the filter are clean and not blocked. 4. If AS is still showing, schedule service. 5. Write down what the display showed and when, so we can compare it with what we find.
- The code groups several sensors, so we confirm which one has stopped reporting before ordering anything.
- A power reset only shows if the reading was a one-time glitch.
- If the unit is an older one and the repair does not make sense, we will say so before any work starts.
Other Dehumidifier codes
Why is my dehumidifier showing AS?
AS means one of the unit's temperature or humidity sensors is no longer sending a usable reading. The control cannot manage the unit properly without it, so you may see odd running or no dehumidifying.
Can I keep using the dehumidifier with AS?
We would not rely on it. Without a good reading, the unit may run when it should not or stop when the room is still damp. A sensor check is the next step.
Is it worth repairing an older dehumidifier for a sensor?
Often yes, because a sensor repair can be modest. We give you the written price first and tell you honestly if the age of the unit makes replacement the better choice.
Still seeing AS?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
