What PU means
PU appears on Frigidaire dehumidifiers with a built-in pump, such as the FFAP and FGAC pump models, when the unit fails to pump the bucket out in the time allowed. The drain hose may be disconnected, kinked, blocked or frozen, or the pickup inside the bucket may be dirty. With PU on the display the bucket can fill and the unit can shut down.
Common causes of PU
- A pump drain hose that is not connected, kinked, blocked or frozen
- A dirty pickup or algae in the bucket
- A pump that is not running
1. Unplug the unit and empty the bucket. 2. Check that the pump drain hose is connected and is not kinked, blocked or frozen. 3. Look at the pickup in the bucket for dirt or algae and clean it. 4. Plug the unit in, restart it, and if PU returns call us.
- Hose and bucket problems cause most PU codes, and we check them first.
- If both are clear, we test whether the pump runs and moves water.
- Written pricing comes before any part is ordered.
Other Dehumidifier codes
What does PU mean?
PU means the dehumidifier could not pump the bucket empty in the expected time. A blocked or kinked hose, or a dirty pickup in the bucket, is the usual reason.
Can the hose freeze?
Yes. If the hose runs through a cold space the water in it can freeze and stop the pump. Thaw it and keep it out of cold areas.
What if everything looks clear and PU stays?
The pump itself may not be running or may not be moving water. That needs testing, which we do at your home, and we tell you the price before any work.
Still seeing PU?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
