What L1 or F5 means
L1 and F5 are the last two sensor messages on Frigidaire dehumidifiers with a digital display in the FFAD, FFAP and FGAC families. They tell you a temperature or humidity sensor has failed and the control no longer has a good reading. The unit may run without regard to the room, shut off early or ignore your humidity setting. They belong to the same group as AS, ES, F1 and F2.
Common causes of L1 or F5
- The temperature or humidity sensor
- The sensor plug or wiring
- Whether the board is reading the sensor correctly
1. Unplug the dehumidifier and wait about a minute. 2. Plug it back in and set a humidity target. 3. Wash the filter and clear the intake. 4. If L1 or F5 is still shown, turn the unit off and schedule service. 5. Note which code you see and when it appears.
- The codes do not name which sensor, so we test the sensors one by one.
- A reset only helps if the reading was a one-time glitch.
- You get the price in writing before any repair.
Other Dehumidifier codes
What are L1 and F5 reporting?
Both mean a sensor has failed. Without a good reading, the dehumidifier cannot decide when to run, so it may run too much or not enough.
Are L1 and F5 different from ES and AS?
They are all in the same sensor group on these units. The letters differ, but the first step is the same: restart the unit, and if the code returns, have the sensors tested.
Can I replace the sensor myself?
We do not recommend it. The sensors are inside the unit, and we do not ask owners to open it. We can test and replace the right part and give you the price first.
Still seeing L1 or F5?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
