A room air conditioner is one self-contained box with a compressor, two coils, two fans and a control. Frigidaire window and portable units are common in bedrooms, garages and older homes without full cooling. Many are several summers old.

In Houston, a window unit can run for months. Constant use, damp air and pollen clog the filter and coils, and salt air near the coast corrodes the exterior. A unit mounted in a window with no tilt or a poor seal wastes energy and leaks.

We check the filter, coils and fans, the drain path, the controls and the power supply. Sealed refrigerant work is limited on room units, and on an older unit we tell you honestly if replacement costs less than a repair.

Can you service central air or a mini-split?

No. We work only on plug-in window and portable units. Central, ducted and mini-split cooling needs a licensed HVAC contractor, and we will say so if your call falls in that group so you do not wait for the wrong visit.

My window unit is dripping water indoors. Why?

Most window units need a slight tilt to the outside so condensation drains out. A unit that is level or tilted inward, or a clogged drain, drips into the room. Check the tilt and clean the filter before calling.

The air conditioner freezes up. What causes that?

A dirty filter, blocked airflow, low refrigerant or running at low outdoor temperature can cause ice on the coil. Turn it off and let it thaw. If it freezes again after cleaning the filter, the problem needs a closer look.
