What EC means

On Frigidaire dehumidifiers with a digital display, including the FFAD, FFAP and FGAC families, EC is listed together with F0 as a sealed system failure. That is the cooling circuit that pulls water out of the air. The owner guide asks you to confirm normal operating conditions first: a standard 115-volt outlet and a room between 41 and 89 degrees Fahrenheit. If EC persists after a restart, the unit needs service.

Common causes of EC

  • The room is outside the operating range
  • The outlet is weak or an extension cord is in use
  • The compressor or sealed system is not working
  • A control or sensor problem that reports like a sealed system problem
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Make sure the dehumidifier is plugged straight into a wall outlet, not an extension cord. 2. Check that the room is between 41 and 89 degrees Fahrenheit. 3. Unplug the unit and plug it in again. 4. If EC comes back, turn the unit off and schedule service.

! Why to stop there
  • EC points to the cooling circuit, but only testing can tell whether the cause is power, the compressor or a control problem.
  • We do not ask owners to open the unit or touch the sealed system.
  • If the sealed system is the problem on an older unit, we will say plainly that replacement may be the better choice.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
ECEC questions
What is EC telling me about my dehumidifier?

EC is a sealed system alert, shared with F0. The cooling circuit is not working as it should. Confirm the outlet and room temperature, then restart the unit. If EC stays, it needs service.

Could the room temperature cause EC?

Yes. These units are designed to run between 41 and 89 degrees Fahrenheit. Outside that range they may show the code. If your room is within range and EC returns, we should look at it.

Is a sealed system repair worth it on an older dehumidifier?

Sometimes not. We will test first, give you honest numbers in writing, and tell you if replacing the unit makes more sense than repairing it.
