It is a reminder to clean the air filter, not a failure. The light does not mean the unit is broken, and cooling normally continues. A clogged filter can still hurt airflow, so it is worth cleaning when the light comes on.

If the light stays on after a clean filter and a reset, the button or the control may need testing.
