What EAF means
EAF means the microcontroller was reset by its internal watchdog timer on Frigidaire Affinity and Gallery 5.8 cubic foot electronic-control dryers, along with the older 5.75 cubic foot Good and Better models. The watchdog is a built-in monitor that restarts the control if it stops responding as expected, so EAF is a reset record and not a statement that the board has failed. You may see the dryer stop, restart or show EAF. Without a digital readout, the indicator lights flash it instead. These are older dryers still in many homes.
Common causes of EAF
- A one-time reset caused by a power surge or dip
- The electronic control if resets keep happening
- Wiring or connector problems that interrupt the control's power
1. Press Cancel to clear the code. 2. Unplug the dryer for a short time and plug it back in. 3. Check that the power cord is fully seated. 4. Restart the cycle. 5. If EAF comes back, call us to schedule service.
- A reset that happens once does not show a board problem, so we do not recommend replacing the control right away.
- If EAF recurs, we check the power supply and connections first and the board after.
- We tell you plainly if the older dryer is not worth the repair.
Other Dryer codes
Does EAF mean the control board is bad?
No. It records that the control restarted itself. The board is replaced only if EAF keeps coming back. A single reset is not a sign the board is worn out.
What can cause a watchdog reset?
A power dip or surge, a loose connection or a control that is starting to misbehave. We check the simple causes first. If EAF repeats, we check the power and connections first.
Is it worth repairing an older dryer with EAF?
If it comes back and the control is the cause, the repair is often reasonable. You will have the price in writing before work begins. We replace the control only when it is clearly the cause.
Still seeing EAF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
