What E24 / E25 means
Among the dryers covered here, Frigidaire Affinity and Gallery 5.8 cubic foot electronic-control dryers, along with the older 5.75 cubic foot Good and Better models, E24 and E25 refer to the control thermistor, the sensor that tells the dryer how hot the air is. E24 means the thermistor or its wiring is shorted. E25 means the thermistor or its wiring is open. Either way the control cannot read the temperature, so the dryer may not heat properly or may stop. Gallery units with no display show the same code as blinking indicator lights. These are older dryers still in many homes.
Common causes of E24 / E25
- The control thermistor and its plug
- The wiring between the thermistor and the control
- The input circuit on the control that reads the sensor
1. Press Cancel and unplug the dryer. 2. Clean the lint screen and check the outside vent hood for blockage. 3. Plug the dryer back in and run a short cycle. 4. If E24 or E25 returns, stop using the dryer and call us to schedule service.
- The code tells us whether the circuit reads shorted or open, but not whether the thermistor, wiring or control causes it.
- We test the thermistor first and the wiring after, and check the board last.
- The repair price is quoted in writing before work, and we say so plainly when an older dryer is not worth it.
Other Dryer codes
How do E24 and E25 differ?
E24 means the control reads the thermistor circuit as shorted. E25 means it reads the circuit as open. Both mean the dryer has lost its temperature reading. Both codes point to the thermistor circuit, so we start with the sensor and its wiring.
Can I run the dryer with E24 or E25?
We do not recommend it. Without a temperature reading the dryer cannot control heating, so it may stop or give poor results. The sensor is a small, inexpensive part when it is the cause.
Do you repair older Affinity and Gallery dryers?
Yes. We repair them and tell you plainly if a repair does not make sense for the age of the machine. The control board is checked last.
Still seeing E24 / E25?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
