What E10-E12 means

On Frigidaire Affinity and Gallery 5.8 cubic foot electronic-control dryers, along with the older 5.75 cubic foot Good and Better models, E10, E11 and E12 point to the control's memory. E10 is a general EEPROM error, a problem between the memory chip and the microprocessor. E11 is a checksum error, meaning the stored data did not check out and may be corrupted. E12 is a non-fatal read or write error when the control reads or writes memory or inputs. The older chart lumps all three as a communication failure. Models without a digital readout flash the code on indicator lights. These dryers are still in many homes.

Common causes of E10-E12

  • A one-time memory error that clears with a restart
  • The electronic control and its stored data
  • Power quality at the outlet that upsets the control
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press Cancel to clear the code. 2. Unplug the dryer for a short time, plug it back in and restart a cycle. 3. Check that the power cord is fully seated in the outlet. 4. If the code comes back, stop using the dryer and call us to schedule service.

! Why to stop there
  • Clearing the code only proves the error was momentary; it does not show whether the control is going bad.
  • The control is replaced only if the error recurs, and we confirm that before we recommend a board.
  • If an older dryer is not worth the repair cost, we say so before any work starts.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E10-E12E10-E12 questions
Does E10, E11 or E12 mean I need a new control?

Not right away. These are memory errors and one can be a one-time event. If the code returns after a restart, the control is the likely cause. A control memory error is different from a failed heating or motor part.

What is the difference between the three codes?

E10 is a general memory communication error, E11 is a checksum error where the stored data is corrupted, and E12 is a read or write error that is not fatal to operation. The dryer may still look normal on the outside.

Is it worth repairing an older dryer for this?

Often yes, since a control is a reasonable repair on a dryer that is otherwise sound. We give a written price first and say plainly when it is not worth it. If the error recurs after a restart, we check the control and its connections.
