What Beep-count codes (4 / 6 / 9 beeps) means
Some Frigidaire Affinity 5.75 cubic foot dryers, the older 6000 and 7000 series, signal a problem with a number of beeps as well as a code. The owner chart pairs four beeps with E4A, which means the dryer is running too long. Six beeps go with E68, a push button that is stuck or held too long. Nine beeps go with E9E, a line voltage problem. If your dryer beeps and stops, count the beeps and match them. These dryers are older models still in many homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of Beep-count codes (4 / 6 / 9 beeps)
- Four beeps: a clogged lint screen or vent, or an overloaded drum
- Six beeps: a button pressed too long or wedged in the control panel
- Nine beeps: low or intermittent line voltage at the dryer
1. Count the beeps and write the number down. 2. Press Cancel to stop the dryer. 3. For four beeps, clean the lint screen and check the outside vent hood and reduce the load. 4. For six beeps, press each button lightly and make sure none stays down. 5. For nine beeps, try again and call us if it repeats.
- The beep count names the condition but not the part, so a clean vent or a freed button settles only part of it.
- For nine beeps we test the voltage at the dryer before anything inside it is touched.
- We quote the price in writing and tell you plainly if the dryer is not worth repairing.
Other Dryer codes
How do I know which code my dryer is showing?
Count the beeps. Four goes with E4A, six with E68 and nine with E9E. If the display also shows a code, that code is the answer. Each count is a short way of naming a condition.
Can I clear the beeps myself?
Pressing Cancel stops the dryer, and cleaning the lint screen or freeing a stuck button may be enough. If the beeps come back, the cause is still there and we should look. Write down the count before you press Cancel so you can tell us.
Do you repair these older Affinity dryers?
Yes. We repair them, give you a written price first, and tell you plainly if a repair would not make sense for the age of the dryer. If the beeps return, the cause is still there.
