What F2 means
F2 on a Frigidaire front-load washer means there is too much soap or the wrong type of soap. Suds can leak out or overflow, and the washer stops to protect itself. The control generation that prints F2 is not stated for these washers, so we treat it as the same oversudsing condition seen as EF2 on the Affinity-era control. Owners see heavy foam, a washer that stops or drains slowly and sometimes suds around the door or dispenser. It is a detergent problem far more often than a broken part.
Common causes of F2
- Regular detergent used in a front-load washer
- Too much detergent for the load
- Suds left in the drum from an earlier cycle
1. Use HE detergent. 2. Do not use too much detergent. 3. Run an empty Quick Wash cycle to clean the unit. 4. Restart with a smaller dose. 5. If F2 comes back after these steps, stop using the washer and call us. Tell us which detergent and dose you used.
- If F2 returns after correct detergent and an empty rinse, we do not yet know whether the sensing or the drain is causing it.
- We check how the washer senses foam and drains, then give you a written price before any repair.
- If detergent is the cause, we say so, and no repair is needed.
Other Washer codes
What does HE detergent mean?
It stands for high efficiency, a low-foam detergent made for front-load washers. Regular detergent makes too many suds. HE stands for high efficiency, a low-foam detergent made for front-load washers, and it is the one to use.
How much detergent should I use?
Follow the dosage on the HE bottle. More does not clean better, and it leaves residue. The right dose is the one printed on the HE bottle for your load size, because extra does not clean better and it leaves residue.
What is the Quick Wash clean-out?
Run an empty Quick Wash cycle with no detergent to rinse the suds out of the drum. That means no detergent, just a short cycle to rinse suds out of the drum before you restart with a smaller dose.
Still unsure about F2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
