What EB1 means

EB1 means the incoming power frequency is outside the limits the washer accepts. Frigidaire front-load washers with the horizontal-axis electronic control, from the 3.0 cu ft Frigidaire and Gallery models to the Affinity 6000 and 7000, watch the rhythm of the household supply as well as its voltage. If that rhythm drifts, the control stops the cycle rather than run the motor on poor power. Owners see the washer stop or refuse to start with EB1 on the display. It can come from the supply, but a control that reads the supply wrongly can show it too.

Common causes of EB1

  • Household power supply or generator output
  • Outlet, cord or plug connection
  • Control board input that reads line frequency
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Plug the washer directly into a wall outlet, not an extension cord or a power strip. 2. If you are on a generator or a backup unit, switch to normal utility power. 3. Turn the washer off and on again. 4. If EB1 returns on normal power, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • EB1 can come from the supply or from the board that measures it, and the code does not say which.
  • We check the outlet and the incoming power first, then the board, and give you a written price before any repair.
  • If the washer is older and a new board is not sensible, we say so.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
EB1EB1 questions
Could my generator cause EB1?

Yes. A small generator or inverter can produce power the washer does not accept. Try normal utility power before calling us. Normal utility power is the better test, and a small generator is the first thing to rule out.

Is EB1 the same as the voltage codes?

No. EB2 and EB3 report voltage that is too high or too low. EB1 is about the frequency of the supply. EB1 is about the rhythm of the supply, not its strength, and we measure the two things separately at your outlet.

Will a surge protector help?

A surge protector protects against spikes but does not correct the frequency. We check the outlet and the washer's reading when we visit. A surge protector guards against spikes, and does not change the frequency, so we measure the outlet when we visit.
