What E97 means
E97 is a console control code on Frigidaire Affinity 6000 and 7000 front-load washers of the 2006 and 2009 to 2012 generations. It tells you the washer found a problem in the control panel circuit. The earlier 3.0 cu ft washers do not list it. A washer showing E97 may refuse to run a cycle, stop right after starting or simply sit on the code until power is cut. The panel includes the display, keys and selector, and any of those circuits can raise the code.
Common causes of E97
- Console board communication
- Wiring harness to the console
- Panel keys or selector
1. Turn the washer off and then on again. 2. Check that the front panel is dry. 3. Try selecting a basic cycle. 4. If E97 returns, stop using the washer and call us. 5. Should E97 come back, leave the washer off and call us. Note whether it appeared before the start or mid-cycle.
- E97 tells us the panel circuit has a problem, but not which part.
- We test the panel and its connection before anything is replaced, then give you a written price.
- We say plainly when a new panel is not worth it on an older washer.
Other Washer codes
What parts are in the console?
It holds the display, keys, knob and the circuit board behind them. E97 says that circuit reported a problem. We test the panel circuit to find which one it is.
Can I keep using the washer if it starts?
It may run, but the code can return mid-cycle. We would rather check it before you rely on it for a full load. Even a washer that starts again may stop mid-cycle, so we would rather check it before you rely on it for a heavy load.
Do you repair older Affinity washers?
Yes. They are still in many homes, and we give you a written price before any work. We give you a written price before work, and we say plainly if the washer is better replaced.
Still seeing E97?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
