What E68 means
E68 on a heater-equipped Frigidaire Affinity 6000 or 7000 front-load washer reports current leaking to ground on the heater, or an opened fuse. The washer uses an electric element to heat the water, and the control watches it for leakage through the element casing. If current leaks, or the protective fuse opens, the control stops the cycle. This code covers the 2006 washers and the 3.5 cu ft Affinity of about 2009 to 2012. A dryer E68 is a stuck key, a different product. Owners see the washer stop with E68 and no hot water.
Common causes of E68
- Heating element leaking current to the tub
- Opened fuse in the heater circuit
- Wiring or connector at the heater
- Water or moisture near the heater terminals
1. Turn the washer off and unplug it. 2. Look around the base of the washer for any water, and wipe it up. 3. Do not run the washer again until it has been inspected. 4. Call us so we can test the heater circuit.
- Current leakage to ground is an electrical safety condition, so we do not guess at the cause.
- We test the heater and its fuse before anything is replaced, and give you a written price first.
- If leakage is found, we explain what we saw and what we recommend.
Other Washer codes
Is E68 dangerous?
Leakage to ground can be a safety issue, so we recommend keeping the washer unplugged until it is checked. We test the heater circuit with care.
Is E68 on a dryer the same?
No. On a Frigidaire dryer E68 refers to a stuck key. This page covers heater-equipped Affinity washers. We do not mix up the two codes, because the washer repair and the dryer repair are different jobs.
Can I wash cold in the meantime?
We would not run it at all while E68 is showing. Leakage is what the code is about, and the washer should be checked first.
Still seeing E68?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
