What E5D-E5F means
Three codes, E5D, E5E and E5F, all report a communication problem in a Frigidaire front-load washer. Inside, this horizontal-axis control uses more than one circuit board, and the boards pass messages back and forth during every cycle. When that exchange breaks, the washer cannot carry on. The codes are used on the 3.0 cu ft Frigidaire and Gallery washers of about 2004 to 2006 and on the Affinity 6000 and 7000 series. Owners see a washer that will not start, stops mid-cycle or shows a display that no longer responds as it should.
Common causes of E5D-E5F
- Wire harness or connector between the control boards
- Console board and main board not communicating
- Power supply to one of the boards
- Water or moisture near the board connections
1. Turn the washer off at the control and restart it once. 2. Look at the area around the washer for any signs of water or damp. 3. Check the power cord and outlet are firmly seated. 4. If a code returns, stop using the washer and call us.
- The codes say two boards stopped talking, not which board, wire or connector caused it.
- We inspect the harness and connectors, then each board in turn, and you receive a written price before anything is replaced.
- If a replacement control would cost more than the washer is worth, we will not push it.
Other Washer codes
Why are there three codes for the same message?
The manufacturer groups E5D, E5E and E5F as the same communication problem. The letter can point to which link dropped, and we read it during the visit.
Could a power surge have caused this?
It can. A surge or a damp connector can interrupt the link between boards, and the code alone cannot tell us. We test the harness and the boards one at a time.
Is it worth fixing an older Affinity?
Often it is, especially if the drum and cabinet are sound. You get a written price first, and our work carries a 30-day warranty. Nothing is ordered until you agree.
Still seeing E5D-E5F?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
