What E52 means
E52 means a Frigidaire front-load washer is getting a bad speed signal from its tacho generator, a small sensor on the drum motor. The control relies on that signal to know how fast the drum turns, and without a clean one it will not drive the motor. You will find the code on the 3.0 cu ft Frigidaire and Gallery washers of roughly 2004 to 2006 and on the Affinity 6000 and 7000 models. The cycle stops and E52 stays lit. These older washers remain common in Houston homes.
Common causes of E52
- Motor tacho sensor or its connections
- Wiring between the motor and the control
- Motor control output on the board
1. Turn the washer off and open the door to check that the drum turns freely by hand with the load removed. 2. Make sure a sock or small item is not wedged between the drum and the tub. 3. Restart the cycle once with a lighter load. 4. If E52 returns, stop using the washer and call us.
- E52 says the speed signal is wrong, but it does not name the failing part.
- We look at the motor connections and the tacho wiring first, then the control output, and you get the result before any price is agreed.
- If the drum and cabinet are sound, the repair usually pays off. If not, we say that on the spot.
Other Washer codes
What is a tacho generator?
It is a small sensor on the drum motor that reports motor speed to the control. If its signal is wrong or missing, the control stops the cycle. E52 is the code for that bad signal.
Will the washer work again after I clear the code?
It may run one cycle, but if the signal problem is real, E52 will return. We test the motor circuit so you are not caught with a half-washed load.
Is it worth repairing an older front-load washer?
Often it is, because the drum and cabinet outlast the electronics. We check first, quote in writing, and tell you if a replacement would be wiser.
Still seeing E52?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
