What E4 means
E4 on a Frigidaire top-load washer with a digital display means the washer is out of balance during the spin. The washer tries to correct the problem on its own, and if it cannot after three tries it stops and shows E4 so you can redistribute the clothes. A heavy single item, a load bunched to one side, a washer that is not level or foam shipping supports left in place can all cause it. You may notice thumping, a drum that shakes, or a wet load that stopped before spinning.
Common causes of E4
- A load bunched to one side or one heavy item
- A washer that is not level or not resting firmly
- Foam shipping supports left in the base
- A suspension problem that lets the tub swing
1. Check that the washer rests firmly and adjust the leveling legs. 2. Confirm the foam shipping support was removed. 3. Open the lid and redistribute the load evenly. 4. Close the lid and restart the spin. 5. If the load is soaked, wring out heavy items by hand before restarting the spin.
- If E4 keeps returning with an even load and a level washer, we do not know whether the suspension or the sensing is the cause.
- We check the tub movement and the leveling.
- We write the price down first, and the repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Washer codes
Why does my washer stop before it spins?
It senses the load is lopsided and tries to fix it. After three failed tries it stops and shows E4. Spreading the clothes usually clears it.
Should I wash a single heavy item alone?
A single heavy item such as a rug or a bath mat often leads to an uneven spin. Wash it with a few smaller pieces and leave room in the drum so the load can spread out.
What if E4 happens every load?
Check the level and the shipping supports first. If it still happens, call us and we look at the suspension. We repair older washers too.
Still seeing E4?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
