What E1 means

E1 on a Frigidaire top-load washer with a digital display means water is not entering the washer, or the fill is taking too long. The control waits for the tub to fill and stops the cycle when the water does not arrive on time. You may see E1 with a tub that stays dry or only partly full, a cycle that stalls at the start, or a very slow trickle at the hoses. A closed faucet, a kinked hose or a clogged screen often explains it, though a failing water valve can also cause it.

Common causes of E1

  • Hot or cold faucets that are not fully open
  • A kinked inlet hose or a clogged hose screen
  • Low water pressure at the house
  • The water inlet valve, or a leak that drains the tub as it fills
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check that the lid is closed. 2. Fully open both the hot and cold water faucets. 3. Check the water pressure at another faucet in the house. 4. Straighten any kinked inlet hoses and clean the screens at the hose ends. 5. Check the tub for a water leak.

! Why to stop there
  • If E1 returns with clean screens and open faucets, we do not know whether the valve, the pressure switch or the control is the cause.
  • We check how much water comes through each hose, then test the valve and its wiring.
  • A written price comes before any valve is replaced, and an older washer gets an honest opinion on value.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E1E1 questions
Why does my washer show E1 but the faucets are on?

A clogged screen or a kinked hose can slow water without stopping it. The washer waits for the fill and then shows E1. We check the screens, the hoses and the valve.

Is it safe to leave the hoses on?

Check them for leaks and bulges, and turn the faucets off if you will be away for a long time. That is good practice for any washer.

Will you repair an older top-load washer?

Yes, many older machines run in Houston homes. After we find the cause, we put the price in writing and say plainly if the repair is not worth it.
