What CL means
CL on a Frigidaire top-load washer with a digital display means the lid has been open for more than 20 seconds while the Control Lock is on. Control Lock is a feature that locks the keys so a cycle cannot be changed by accident, and with it active the washer treats an open lid as a reason to stop and show CL. You will see the code when you lift the lid mid-cycle, or when a cycle will not start. It is a setting and lid message, not a failed part, and it clears once the lock is released.
Common causes of CL
- Control Lock turned on
- A lid left open for more than 20 seconds
- A lid that does not register as closed
1. Power the washer off. 2. Turn off the Control Lock feature, using the steps in your user manual. 3. Close the lid fully. 4. Power the washer back on and start the cycle again. 5. If the lid will not stay shut, check that nothing is caught under it.
- If CL returns after the lock is off, we do not know whether the keys or the lid switch are involved.
- We check the lid switch and the keypad behavior before replacing any part.
- If a part is needed, the price is in writing before we replace it.

The steps are in your user manual and depend on the control. If you cannot find them, call us and we walk you through what we can, or check the control on a visit.
