What hs (HS) means
On Frigidaire Professional fully integrated direct-feed dishwashers from the mid-2000s, such as models PLD4555RFC0 and PLD4375RFC0, hs reports a Hall sensor problem. The Hall sensor is built into the wash motor and tells the control that the motor is spinning. When the control senses a problem with it, you may see hs on the display and the dishwasher may stop or not wash. These are older dishwashers we still repair.
Common causes of hs (HS)
- The Hall sensor in the wash motor
- The wiring between the motor and the control
- The wash motor assembly
- The control board
1. Close the door and cancel the cycle. 2. Check that nothing is stuck in the lower spray arm or in the wash area. 3. Run a short cycle again and watch whether hs returns. 4. If hs returns, stop using the dishwasher and call us.
- The sensor is part of the motor assembly, so we test the sensor and motor together before deciding on a repair.
- We check the wiring first, since it is the smaller repair.
- This is an older model, and we say plainly if a motor repair is not worth the cost.
Other Dishwasher codes
What does hs mean?
It means the control has sensed a problem with the Hall sensor in the wash motor. That sensor reports motor speed, so the dishwasher may not run properly.
Does hs mean I need a new motor?
Not always. We test the sensor, the wiring and the motor before recommending anything. If the motor assembly is needed and the dishwasher is old, we give you honest numbers.
Can I use the dishwasher while hs shows?
We suggest not running it. The control cannot confirm the motor is turning, so cleaning will be poor and the unit may keep stopping. Please unplug it until it is checked.
Still seeing hs (HS)?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
