What 2 (in fresh food window) means
On older Frigidaire electronic side-by-side refrigerators, including the FGHS2655PF and FPHS2699PF, the fresh food temperature window can show a numeric 2 instead of a temperature. That 2 means the fresh food thermistor is open, so the control no longer gets a temperature reading from the refrigerator section. Without that reading it cannot judge when to cool, and the fresh food side may run warm, run too cold, or freeze lettuce and drinks. Some owners notice the display change first and the cooling change a day or two later.
Common causes of 2 (in fresh food window)
- The fresh food thermistor and its mounting
- The connector or wire between the sensor and the control
- The main board input that reads the sensor
1. Check that the doors close and seal and that no shelf or bin props a door open. 2. Move perishable food to a cooler if the fresh food side feels warm. 3. Keep the doors closed as much as possible until the refrigerator is looked at. 4. Do not remove panels or the control.
- The 2 does not tell us whether the sensor, the wiring or the control board is the cause.
- We measure the sensor circuit and look at the connector before replacing anything.
- A part is replaced only after you approve the written price, and the repair is covered by our 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Refrigerator codes
Why is a 2 showing where the temperature should be?
The control swapped the temperature for a code because it cannot read the fresh food sensor. On these older side-by-side models, a 2 is how an open sensor circuit is reported in the fresh food window.
Will the refrigerator still cool?
Sometimes it keeps cooling, but without a reading the control is guessing. That can mean food that is too warm or partly frozen. Check your food by feel, and use a thermometer if you have one.
Do you repair refrigerators this old?
Yes, a 2 on an older side-by-side is a call we get from Houston homes. We find the cause, quote the work in writing, and speak up if a repair makes little sense.
Still seeing 2 (in fresh food window)?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
