GLER642AS
Frigidaire GLER642AS Front-Load Dryer Repair

Most common issues on this model
- Dryer that runs but does not heat the air
- Belt that squeals or breaks, leaving the drum still
- Drum rollers or idler that thump on each turn
- Auto dry cycles that end early or run long
The GLER642AS is a Gallery 27-inch front-load electric dryer with a 5.7 cu. ft. drum and 5 automatic dry cycles. Many of these dryers still run in homes today, and the model was sold in revisions marked AS0, AS2 and AS3.
Because several revisions exist, the exact part list can change from one unit to the next, which is why we read the label before anything is ordered. This dryer uses a belt-driven drum, so the belt, the rollers and the idler pulley are the first wear items we look at when it is loud or the drum does not turn. When there is no heat, the element and the thermal fuse get a meter test, and we clean out the lint path.
With three revisions out there, the serial plate decides which belt or element goes in. We tell you the repair price in writing up front, and if the dryer has aged past the point where a repair pays off, we will say that too.

Error codes this model can show
Does the AS0, AS2 or AS3 ending matter?
It can. Revisions of the same dryer sometimes use different parts, so the full number on the serial plate decides which part goes in. Ordering by that number avoids a second trip.
Why does my dryer thump when it runs?
Worn drum rollers and a tired idler pulley are the usual reasons on a belt-driven dryer. We spin the drum by hand and check each wheel before we suggest replacing the set.
Should this older dryer be repaired?
Often yes when the need is a belt, roller or element, because those are modest repairs. If the cost nears a replacement, we say that clearly and you decide with the price in front of you.
