The FFTR1821TS is a Frigidaire top freezer refrigerator, 30 inches wide and about 18 cu. ft., with adjustable glass shelves, a Store-More gallon shelf, a half-width deli drawer, a clear dairy bin and a reversible door. It has a stainless steel finish and is now an older model.
A reversible door means the hinges can be moved to the other side, and a door that was swapped or reinstalled badly may not seal well. After checking temperatures, we look at hinge play, door level and the gasket along the whole edge. A warm fresh food section sends us to the evaporator fan and damper, while frost on the freezer wall points to the defrost heater. The door on my FFTR1821TS does not seal after I switched the hinges. Why?
The door may be out of level or the hinge bolts loose. We reseat the hinges, check the gasket along the edge and confirm the refrigerator is level.
What does a half-width deli drawer change when I repair the refrigerator?
Nothing in the repair, but a loose drawer can keep the door from closing. We check that it sits correctly before we look for other causes.
Can an older top freezer still be repaired economically?
