When a Frigidaire dishwasher leaves food on dishes or a white film on glasses, the cause is usually cleaning performance, not a broken machine. Check the filter and spray arms before changing detergent again.
Gritty or Dirty Dishes
- Slide out the bottom rack, then twist out the round filter in the tub floor. Rinse it under the tap and clear any food or glass fragments from the sump below.
- Look at the spray arms. Spin each one by hand and check that the small holes are open. Toothpicks work for mineral buildup.
- Load carefully. A large pan blocking the lower spray arm leaves the whole top rack dirty.
- Run the hot tap at the sink for a minute before starting so the first fill is hot.
Cloudy Glasses
Cloudiness is often hard water film or too much detergent, and Houston tap water varies by area. Try less detergent first. If the film wipes off with white vinegar, it is mineral buildup, not permanent etching. Etching, a cloudy look that does not wipe off, comes from soft water with too much detergent and cannot be reversed.
When the Machine Is the Cause
If everything above is clear, we check:
- Water inlet valve, which can restrict the fill.
- Circulation pump or motor, which may be weak.
- Heating element, which warms the wash water.
- Detergent dispenser, which can stick closed.
Weak spray and cool water can look alike at the end of a cycle, so we test fill level and temperature rather than guess. Older dishwashers may still be good repair candidates if the tub and racks are intact. Rusted racks and a leaking tub lean toward replacement, and we tell you so.
