What E13 means
On Frigidaire front-load washers built around the horizontal-axis electronic control, E13 reports water leaking from the tub, or air escaping from the air bell, the small chamber the washer uses to sense the water level. The code appears on the 3.0 cubic foot Frigidaire and Gallery washers from about 2004 to 2006, and on the Affinity 6000 and 7000 Series from 2006 and from 2009 to 2012. Owners may simply see it as a washer that leaks. Loose inlet hoses, a clogged household drain and too much detergent suds can all play a part.
Common causes of E13
- Loose inlet hose connections
- A clogged household drain that backs water up
- Oversudsing from too much or the wrong detergent
- A leak in the tub or an air leak at the air bell
1. Tighten the inlet hose connections. 2. Unclog the household drain. 3. Switch to HE detergent and measure it as the label says. 4. Check the floor for water and wipe it up. 5. Pull the washer forward only if you can do so safely, and mop up any water first. 6. Measure detergent carefully, since extra suds make the sensing worse.
- If E13 returns with tight hoses and a clear drain, we do not know whether the tub, the air bell or the sensing is involved.
- We look for leaks at the tub and the air path and test the level sensing.
- You see the repair price on paper before we begin, and the work is covered for a month afterward.
Other Washer codes
Why is E13 about a leak if I see no water?
The code also covers an air leak at the air bell, which you cannot see. The washer senses the water level through air pressure. That is why a dry floor does not rule the code out.
Can too much detergent cause E13?
Yes. Heavy suds can confuse the water-level sensing, so measure the detergent and use the HE type. If the code keeps coming back, call us and we look for a real leak.
Is it worth repairing an older front-load washer?
Often, when the cause is a hose or a seal. After checking the washer we give you a price in writing, and we say so if it would cost more than it is worth.
Still seeing E13?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
