What F5 F0 / F5 FF means
On Frigidaire freestanding electric ranges with the ESEC 10R surface element control, such as the PLEF398DC, F5 F0 and F5 FF mean a watchdog timer ran out. A watchdog is a safety timer that expects a board to check in regularly, and when it does not, the control stops. F5 F0 points to the power board, and F5 FF points to the UIB, the user interface board. You may see the display freeze or restart and the surface elements shut off.
Common causes of F5 F0 / F5 FF
- The power board in the surface control (F5 F0)
- The UIB, the user interface board (F5 FF)
- The supply to those boards
- Loose connectors between them
1. Turn off all the elements. 2. Reset the power supply at the plug or breaker, then restore it. 3. Turn on a burner and see whether the code returns. 4. Keep the back cover closed, and tell us whether the display froze or restarted.
- A timer that expires can mean a board that locked up or a supply that dipped, and those are separate tests.
- We check the supply and connectors, then the board named by the code.
- You will have a written price before any board is replaced, and a plain answer if an older range is not worth it.
Other Range codes
What is a watchdog timer?
It is a safety timer that expects a board to report in on schedule. When the board stays silent, the control stops and shows a code. F5 F0 and F5 FF tell us which board went quiet.
Can an F5 FF come from a power problem?
Yes. A weak supply can cause a board to lock up. We check the supply before blaming the board, so a power problem does not lead to a part you did not need.
Is a range this age worth repairing?
Often it is, and we tell you plainly before we start if it is not. You get a written price first, so the decision about whether to go ahead stays with you.
Still seeing F5 F0 / F5 FF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
