What F3 (communication) means
On current Frigidaire electric ranges, such as the FFEF3054TS, F3 is listed with F20 as a communication error, meaning two boards in the range have stopped exchanging messages. If your range is one of the oldest ES100 to ES400 controls from 2001 to 2003, the same F3 means something else: a problem with the oven sensor. So we check how old the control is before we decide what to test. You may see F3 at power-up, with the oven or the surface elements not responding.
Common causes of F3 (communication)
- The wiring between the control boards on a current range
- The oven control or the board it talks to
- On an older ES control, the oven temperature sensor and its wiring
1. Turn off the oven and all the elements. 2. Pull the plug or flip the breaker for up to 30 seconds, then restore it. 3. Switch on one element or the oven and see whether F3 returns. 4. Do not open the back of the range.
- The same code means a board link on a current range and a sensor on an old one, so the age of the control decides our first test.
- We test the link or the sensor, whichever fits, and then the control.
- A written price comes first, and we say plainly when an older range is not worth the repair.
Other Range codes
Does F3 always mean a communication error?
On current Frigidaire electric ranges, yes. On the oldest ES controls from 2001 to 2003 it points to the oven sensor instead. We confirm which one you have before we start testing.
Will unplugging the range clear F3?
Cutting power for up to 30 seconds can clear a one-time glitch. If F3 comes back, the cause is still there, and we look at the board link or the sensor depending on the age of the control.
Do you fix older ranges that show F3?
Yes. Houston has many of them still in daily use, and we repair them. You get a written price first, and we tell you plainly if it is not worth it.
Still seeing F3 (communication)?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
