What Cooktop Lock Display means
On Frigidaire ranges and wall ovens that have a Lock feature, such as the FFEF3054TS, FGEF3036TF, FPEF3077QF and FCRE3052AS, a dash on the display means the cooktop is locked. It is a setting, not an error, and it is there so a child or a stray touch cannot turn on a surface element. While it is on, the surface controls ignore you and nothing heats. Owners often think the range has stopped working when the lock was set by accident while wiping the panel.
Common causes of Cooktop Lock Display
- The Lock setting switched on by a touch or a long press
- Wet or greasy control keys pressed by a cloth during cleaning
- A control that does not release the lock after the correct hold, which is rare
1. Press OFF and keep your finger on it for 6 seconds. 2. Watch the display and wait for the dash to disappear. 3. Dry the control panel, and use a barely damp cloth the next time you wipe it. 4. Switch on one surface element to confirm it heats again.
- If the dash stays after the six-second hold, we need to learn whether the keys or the control is to blame.
- We press each key on its own and watch whether the lock state changes the way it should.
- If a part has to be replaced, you will see a written price first.
Other Range codes
Does the dash mean my cooktop is broken?
No. It means the Lock feature is on. Pressing OFF and holding it for 6 seconds cancels it on these ranges. If the dash goes away and the burners heat, the range is fine.
Why did it lock when I did not touch it?
A damp cloth across the panel can press keys long enough to set the lock. Wipe with the range off and the panel dry. If it locks again with nobody touching it, we would look at the keys.
What if holding OFF does nothing?
Then the keypad may not be reading properly. We would test the keys and the control, tell you what we find, and give you a written price before replacing anything.
