What High Temp means
The High Temp alarm on Frigidaire upright freezers such as FFFU16F2VW alerts you if the door is left open or the temperature rises. On electronic freezers the same condition shows as HI. The owner guidance says a buzzer sounds on some models if the temperature goes above 20 degrees F. The alarm tells you the freezer is warm, but it does not tell you why. Older uprights like these are still in service in many kitchens and garages, and we work on them.
Common causes of High Temp
- A door left open or not sealing
- A freezer that is not level so the door does not close right
- A freezer that is not cooling
- An alarm circuit that is reading wrongly
1. Turn the Temp-Alarm off until the freezer is below 20 degrees F. 2. Check that the freezer is level and the door gasket seals. 3. Keep the door closed so the freezer can cool back down. 4. Check that the food is still frozen. 5. If the alarm returns, call us to schedule service.
- If the door and level are right and the alarm keeps returning, the freezer is warm for another reason or the alarm is wrong, which we have to test.
- We check the temperature, cooling and alarm circuit in that order.
- We tell you plainly if a repair is not worth it on an older freezer.
Other Freezer codes
Can I turn the alarm off?
The owner guidance says to turn the Temp-Alarm off until the freezer is below 20 degrees F. Turn it back on after it has cooled. The alarm is helpful because it warns you before the food is lost.
What is the alarm warning me about?
The freezer is warm, either because the door was open or the temperature rose. The alarm does not name the cause. Once the freezer is cold again, turn the alarm back on.
Do you repair older freezers that run warm?
Yes. We repair them and say plainly if a repair does not make sense. If it keeps sounding, something is still wrong. Write down how long the alarm has been sounding, since that tells us how warm the freezer may have become.
