What E5 means

E5 means showroom mode on Frigidaire upright freezers with electronic control, including the Deluxe half-moon, vertical, square and rectangle control boards, such as FPUH19D7LF. Showroom mode is a setting used for display units in a store, and it is not a problem the control found. If a freezer at home shows E5, the control has been set to that mode, often by an accidental button press. We do not give an owner button sequence for leaving it, because that is not documented for these models. These upright freezers are older models still in many homes, and we repair them.

Common causes of E5

  • Showroom mode set on the control
  • A stuck or accidentally pressed button
  • The control board if it keeps going back to showroom mode
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check whether the freezer is actually getting cold inside. 2. Look for a button that seems stuck. 3. Power the freezer off at the outlet for a minute, then plug it back in. 4. Do not hold buttons down in combinations to try to find a reset. 5. Call us if E5 stays or the freezer does not cool.

! Why to stop there
  • We can clear showroom mode, but we want to know why it was set and whether the freezer is cooling as it should.
  • We check the control and buttons if E5 returns.
  • The price is quoted in writing before we start.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E5E5 questions
Is E5 a failure code?

No. E5 means showroom mode, a display setting. The freezer may not behave normally while it is on. It is not a sign that the freezer is damaged.

Why would a home freezer be in showroom mode?

It can be set by an accidental button press or by a control that has been replaced or reset. We find out which. What matters is that the freezer cools normally, so check the temperature inside.

Can you help with an older upright freezer?

Yes. Yes. We service them, and we are straightforward if the repair costs more than the freezer is worth. If E5 returns, we look at how it got set.
