What HI means
HI on Frigidaire upright freezers such as FFFU16F2VW means the temperature in the freezer compartment is high. The control has measured warmth inside and is telling you so, and the owner guidance for these freezers includes a buzzer that sounds above 20 degrees F. HI can come from a door left open or a freezer that is not cooling. Many of these uprights are well out of warranty and still running, and we repair them.
Common causes of HI
- A door that is not closed or a gasket that is not sealing
- A freezer that is not cooling because of a sealed-system or fan problem
- A temperature sensor or control that reads high
1. Check that the door is fully closed and nothing keeps it from latching. 2. Keep the door shut as much as possible. 3. Make sure the freezer is level and the door gasket is sealing. 4. Check that the food is still frozen and move it if it is thawing. 5. Call us to schedule service if HI does not go away.
- If the door and gasket are fine and HI stays, the freezer is actually warm or the control reads it wrongly, and your checks cannot tell which.
- We measure the actual temperature and check cooling before recommending a part.
- We tell you the cost in writing and say plainly if an older freezer is not worth repairing.
Other Freezer codes
What does HI mean on the display?
It means high temperature in the freezer compartment. Close the door and check that the food is still frozen. Opening the door often during a warm spell can make it hard for the freezer to recover.
Why does my freezer beep when it is warm?
On some models a buzzer sounds when the temperature rises above 20 degrees F. It is a warning, not a malfunction by itself. Check the gasket for gaps or tears.
Can you repair an older freezer that will not stay cold?
Yes. We repair them, and we tell you plainly if a repair does not make sense. If the food has thawed, do not refreeze it.
Still seeing HI?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
