What E7 means
E7 on Frigidaire upright freezers with electronic control, including the Deluxe half-moon, vertical, square and rectangle control boards, such as FPUH19D7LF, means either a stuck key or that the control has started fail-safe mode. Fail-safe is the control's protective mode when it cannot trust what it is reading, so the freezer may cool, but not to the setting you chose. You may see E7 on the display and the buttons may not respond. This is an older upright model that is still common in Houston homes, and we repair it.
Common causes of E7
- A button that is stuck or pressed in
- A sensor or control reading that sent the control into fail-safe mode
- The main control board
1. Look for a button that sits lower than the others and press each one lightly. 2. Dry the panel with a soft cloth. 3. Cut power to the freezer for a minute and then restore it. 4. Check that the freezer is staying cold. 5. Call us to schedule service if E7 comes back.
- E7 covers two different conditions, so a stuck-key check alone cannot tell us whether fail-safe mode is the reason.
- We check the keys and the sensor readings together before we suggest the board.
- If the older freezer is not worth the repair, we tell you before we start.
Other Freezer codes
What does E7 mean on my freezer?
Either a key on the control is stuck, or the control has gone into fail-safe mode. Both are control conditions that need checking. Fail-safe mode means the control chose a safe operating setting, so cooling may not match your setting.
Is the freezer still safe to use with E7?
Check that it is staying cold. If the temperature rises, move the food to another freezer. A stuck key can send it there. Tell us whether the display showed anything else, since that helps us decide which condition we are dealing with.
Do you repair older upright freezers?
Yes. We repair them, give the price in writing first, and tell you plainly when a repair does not make sense. We check the keys and the readings together.
Still seeing E7?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
