What HO / Hd means
HO or Hd on a Frigidaire electronic dishwasher with a display means heat delay or heater-on mode is active. The dishwasher is lengthening the cycle so it can bring the water up to temperature. It was shown as HO on the 2006 Professional direct-feed models, as Hd on the 2009 Electronic Series, and the current guide lists Hd or HO. Models such as PLD4555RFC0 and FGID2466QF use these styles. Expect roughly one to two minutes of added time per degree of rise.
Common causes of HO / Hd
- Incoming water is cooler than the cycle needs
- The heater is working to raise the temperature
- A water heater set low or a long run from it to the dishwasher
1. Let the cycle continue; the code goes away when the water reaches temperature. 2. Run the hot tap at the kitchen sink before starting a cycle so the dishwasher fills with hot water. 3. Check that your water heater is set at a normal level. 4. If the cycle never ends or the dishes come out cold and wet, call us.
- If HO or Hd stays on for a very long time, the heater or the temperature sensing may not be working, and we test both.
- We check the incoming water temperature as part of the visit.
- A normal HO or Hd message needs no repair.
Other Dishwasher codes
Is HO or Hd an error?
No. It means the dishwasher is spending extra time heating the water. The cycle is longer than usual but is working as designed. It is a normal extra step.
Why does my dishwasher take so long with Hd showing?
The water coming in was cooler than the cycle needs, so the heater has to raise it. Each degree of rise adds roughly a minute or two to the cycle.
When should I call you about it?
If the cycle runs far longer than usual, the dishes stay cold or the code appears every time with hot water supplied. The heater or sensor may need testing.
Still unsure about HO / Hd?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
