What E48 means
A Frigidaire front-load washer from the horizontal-axis electronic family, such as the 3.0 cu ft Frigidaire and Gallery models of roughly 2004 to 2006 or an Affinity 6000 or 7000, shows E48 when the board believes the door PTC circuit is closed at a moment it should be open. Put simply, the board and the door lock disagree about whether the door is latched. You will notice a washer that will not begin a cycle or quits early, with E48 on the display. These older washers are still in many Houston homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of E48
- Door latch and lock assembly reading closed at the wrong time
- Wiring and connector between the door lock and the control
- Control board input that reads the door circuit
1. Open the door fully, then close it firmly once and press Start again. 2. Check that no sock, strap or lint is caught between the door seal and the latch. 3. Make sure the load is not so large that it keeps the door from closing completely. 4. If E48 shows again, stop using the washer and book a visit.
- E48 tells us the board sees the door circuit as closed. It does not say whether the latch, the harness or the board is the cause.
- On site we test the latch assembly and its wiring first, and the board last. You hear the result and the price in writing before any part goes in.
- If the washer has reached the point where a fix costs more than it is worth, you will hear that from us directly.
Other Washer codes
Does E48 mean my washer door is broken?
Not necessarily. E48 says the control reads the door circuit as closed at the wrong moment. The cause can be the lock, its wiring or the board, and we check those in order.
Can I keep washing if I can close the door by hand?
Closing the door may let one cycle run, but the code will usually come back. Testing the lock circuit beats having the washer quit with a full tub of wet clothes.
Is this washer too old to fix?
Many of these machines are well past warranty and still earn their keep. After testing, you get the price in writing, and we tell you if the money is better spent on a new washer.
Still seeing E48?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
