What E36 means
E36 on Frigidaire Affinity 6000 and 7000 Series front-load washers reports a control board problem. It appears on the 2006 generation and on the 2009 to 2012 3.5 cubic foot generation, and it is not on the earlier 3.0 cubic foot charts. The code tells us the board itself, or a circuit on it, is not behaving as the control expects. You may see a washer that will not start, a cycle that stops, or odd behavior on the display. These older Affinity washers are still in many homes.
Common causes of E36
- The main control board
- The wiring harness and connectors to the board
- A circuit on the board that feeds another part
1. Switch the washer off at the outlet for a few minutes, then restore power. 2. Make sure the door is shut and look for leaking hoses. 3. Leave the door shut while there is water in the drum. 4. Tell us what the display shows when you call.
- The code names the board but does not show which circuit has trouble.
- We check the harness and the connectors, then test the board.
- We write down the price before replacing a board, and we say so if the washer is too old to justify it.
Other Washer codes
Does E36 always mean a new board?
No. A loose connector or a wiring problem can look the same. We test before we replace anything. A loose connector can look the same as a failed board, so we test first.
Is E36 on every Frigidaire washer?
No. It is on the Affinity 6000 and 7000 Series from the mid-2000s and 2009 to 2012, not on the earlier Frigidaire and Gallery washers.
Is an Affinity washer worth repairing with this code?
Sometimes. A board can be a real expense, so we test first and give you the price in writing. If a new washer would be the better buy, we will tell you.
Still seeing E36?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
