What F93 means

Starting with the 2004 generation of Frigidaire freestanding gas and electric ranges, including the PLEF398DC and GLEF378DS, F93 is the code for a door lock that ran past its time limit. Before a self-clean can begin, the latch motor has to slide the lock into place and the control has to see it arrive. When that takes too long, the control abandons the clean and puts F93 on the display. Owners notice a door that never seems to catch, a clean cycle that will not begin, or an oven that stays idle.

Common causes of F93

  • The latch motor that moves the lock
  • The latch switch reporting lock position
  • The wiring to the latch
  • Door alignment that blocks the lock
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Make sure the door is fully closed. 2. Check that nothing blocks the latch area. 3. Unplug the range or trip the breaker for up to 30 seconds, then reconnect. 4. Try the cycle again and watch whether the door locks.

! Why to stop there
  • F93 describes a lock that dragged on too long, so the first thing we do is watch the latch move.
  • The motor, the lock switch and the way the door lines up each get their own test.
  • Before we change anything you receive a written price, along with a candid opinion on whether this range is worth fixing.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F93F93 questions
What separates F93 from F94?

F93 reports the time a lock needed, while F94 reports how many lock tries were made. Both lead us to the latch, so we read the exact code and then test the motor and switch.

Is it fine to keep baking while F93 shows?

In many cases the oven still bakes, because only the locking step is affected. If the control refuses to heat, leave the oven off and wait for us, rather than testing it repeatedly.

Will you repair the lock on an older range?

Yes. We give you a written price before starting and tell you straight if the age of the range makes new latch parts a poor investment.
